Remote Video Production in Phoenix

Directing a Shoot Without Being On Set

Does your agency need to direct a shoot in Phoenix, but the creative team is in another state and there’s no room for travel in the production schedule?

Just because you can’t be on set doesn’t mean you can’t have control. As the director, your relationship with the talent is often what brings the story to life. With our iPad-Zoom Interrotron setup, you can have a cinema-quality conversation with them during filming.

Most video production companies wouldn't have a satisfactory solution like this, but we at Myers Media find the best answers to your production problems.

We come prepared for all styles of remote and in-person agency direction--making sure our clients are happy with the final footage.

Remote Directing While the Camera Is Rolling

Let’s take a deeper look at the Interrotron-based setup we use. You might have heard the term before, but it brings to mind interviewees staring at a two-way mirror built in front of a camera for documentary filming. That’s not quite what we’re doing, but streaming a live camera feed for real-time adjustment works similarly and solves the long-distance production problem.

Our camera feed is routed out through Zoom, with a screen positioned near the lens so the director can see exactly what our camera is capturing while staying in communication with our crew and on-site DP.

Agency direction can happen as the shot is being formed rather than after. It's a win-win for everyone involved.

This approach has been used across multiple productions we’ve filmed for National Geographic, Nike, and Lego, where creative teams remained remote while production was handled locally in Phoenix by our crew and DP. We can do the same for you.

Arizona offers consistent light and beautiful backdrops, making it a favorite for remote productions.

What This Looks Like on Set

We build the setup before the shoot, routing the camera feed out and bringing it into Zoom through an iPad and director’s monitor so the agency sees the same frame we do. Once that connection is in place, we’re working in sync the rest of the day.

As we move into each setup, the agency is integral to the process. We build the shot, and they let us know creative changes in real time. Our DP works through framing and exposure, and the agency follows as it’s happening. We simply adjust as we go.

Commercial shoots are where the Interrotron difference becomes most noticeable.

If a line delivery needs to change, it happens in the moment. If framing needs a slight adjustment, we correct it as the operator settles into position. Those small corrections stay inside the take instead of turning into multiple shoots.

Working Across Different Types of Shoots

We use this setup across the different kinds of productions we run. That might be a controlled interview or a commercial day with multiple deliverables moving at once.

If the agency has input, we correct it in the moment rather than discovering their changes later.

Aerial cinematography introduces a different version of that. While the drone is in the air, the agency stays on the feed and can respond to what they’re seeing without waiting for us to land and rerun it. That reduces repeat passes, saves crucial battery time, and keeps the shot closer to what was originally intended.

On days when we’re capturing multiple pieces of content, this process keeps the agency aligned with how each piece is being handled.

When Remote Direction Fits the Project

We don’t use this on every project, and it’s not meant to replace being on set when that presence is important to the agency.

Some shoots benefit from having all the creative leads there. But there are plenty of productions where that level of presence isn’t necessary.

In those cases, the agency can stay involved without traveling, and we handle execution here in Phoenix. It ends up being a practical decision that frees up time and budgets to be redirected where they count.

By the time we’re filming with this remote setup, there isn’t anything new introduced. The crew works the way we normally do, and agency direction comes through the same channel throughout the day. That consistency makes a difference for everyone involved and allows for a smooth and well-communicated shoot.
